Another Attack

The Osprey Still Are At War With The Eagles

Yesterday, the eagle parent and several osprey had another in-flight battle.

The eagle was injured and dropped into the water.  A local boater tried to shoo the bird to a sandbar

The local wildlife rescue people arrived at the scene, but the tide was too low to get the boat to where the eagle had last been seen.

They waded around the area with no success.

In the meantime, one of the parents returned to the nest area.  There was no way to know if this was the injured eagle. On closer examination, though, it looks as if the right talon may be bleeding.

The parent moved to the nest and hunkered down in it. This, we have not seen since the eaglet was a tiny baby.
It also looks as if there is blood around the tail feathers ...

The rescuers were informed by a local boater that the eagle had been spotted, and were able to leave.

Baby has had yet another traumatizing day. Let's hope mom and dad are OK.

  1. wow, what's causing the osprey to be violent, and why now that the eaglet is so big?

  3. No one around here has seen this kind of attack before. Eaglet is big, but still not quite able to fend for itself!
