Why did Fred's dad climb 9 miles up a mountain?

To get to the middle of the Sawtooths.

    breathtaking scenery.
    however, my feet hurt thinking about the nine miles part.
    are you close to Ketchum?

    yes. We are right outside of Ketchum. Between Ketchum and Hailey.
