Freddy gets sprung

Well, here is a very displeased Fred.
We picked him up this morning after his ruptured ACL was treated with the TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery which involved correcting the slope of the tibial plateau, attaching a plate with six, yes 6!, screws, and cleaning up the meniscus.  The vet said that he did very well, and was the best patient ever! A very unique dog. he said.

Fred probably hopes he never sees that pace again, but no such luck-- we have to go in for a follow up in 10 days.

We need to keep him from slipping on the tile floors, or going up or down the stairs, so here is our new decorating scheme. We bought a couple of rugs at Wal Mart and gathered up every rug and mat in the house. the chairs are blocking the stairs.

A bit embarrassing, this get-up.... we bought an alternative to the usual cone--this is called an air collar, and so far I would say that the air collar is way, way better than the cone!  None of the blind crashing into walls, doors and furniture. You can see the pitiful shaved leg and stitches along the knee. Perfect for Halloween!
A nice pillow, and an elevated leg.. the best we can do for now.

A most fabulous day, untillllllllllllll........

All the fun stuff is back in my life!!! AT least that is the way it seemed until after lunch....
First, the magic golf cart!!!!

Then lunchtime. YES!!!!!!!!

Then a little hanging out in what is called locally, The Pocket Park (It is very tiny)

Oh, please ignore the drool.. there was some chicken salad in the vicinity.....

Nice profile,  if I do say so myself!

Here is Boca Grande during the lunch Rush Hour:

After lunch we had a little dip in the pool, but then I decided that it was really a good time to do the PUPPY ZOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!

DISASTER STRUCK! HARD!!!! I YELPED! OOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
OFF TO THE VET

I am not afraid. I am not afraid, not afraid, not affrrraaiiiidddddddd

Torn ACL, is the diagnosis. Surgery is the next step.
Oh boy, this really stinks.

And  please, please do not call me Gimpy.

Boca Grande, at last!

Boca Grande... well, Freddy's happy. Nothing like indoor outdoor living- a far cry from restricted activity in cold rainy BORING Naperville.

But, I guess the contractors who were working here thought that boxes, lamps and pillows looked good piled in the living room. Oh, well, a high of 80 today.

Chattanooga....yawn

12 hours later, I could barely get the single serving on the pillow..... before I had to guzzle it down (gasp- no ice available) warm!

Fall in Naperville, sigh.....

But don't get used to it. We're back on  the road tomorrow!!!!
Chatttanooga, here we come! CHOO CHOO...
HERE WE GO AGAIN.

ONE other fun thing

BTW, did I mention that activity restriction stinks?

Monday, October 19, 2009

The ONLY Fun I get....

Is going over to my neighbor's house. They have a wondrous apple tree which drops at least 20 apples a day. And, they are organic. So they are really super good. Since my mean parents really don't want me to have any fun, EVVVERRRRRRR, I only get one or two a day, unless I can sneak off and grab some before they catch on.. Oh, and my mouth is just humungous enough that I can stash one large, or two small apples in my mouth and they never know.  I can even smuggle them in  the house if I want! Not the brightest bulbs on the tree, those two.

SO Boring, There's NOTHING to do......

Here is my day:
Sneak onto furniture

OOPS BUSTED!!!

Catch some zzzzzzs.....

Sneak onto the furniture again-- uh oh here they come!!!

YEP....Busted again!!!

Be Depressed.....

Look for some neighbors to play with...No one around...nothing to do...

Being on restricted activity is really boring. There is absolutely NOTHING to do except sit around, eat, tear up other people's stuff, sneak onto the furniture, and yip pitifully at the door.

Oh, MAN, Fun's over for a week, at least.

OK, so my dad took me on a crazy hike in Idaho-- I was a bit sore after that.

Then I got home and went to the Dog Park. Hmmm, leg hurts a bit......Then we played ball for like, two minutes. Wow, I don't know what happened, but it hurts!

The vet says it's either ACL or meniscal. Either way, NO FUN for a week.
This stinks!
