Hiking is fun part 1

We went on a short hike to a waterfall today. The waterfall was really nice, but  it took us 5 times as long to get there than the hike itself (wait.....what is the proper grammar for that???). AND the road was a real nail-biter, gravel, sheer cliffs,  one lane- not all that much fun. We did get to see lots of cows on the way, though.

Here is the best part of hiking: It  is the lunch at the top of the hike.

Literary Update

All I can say about his audiobook is WOW, WOW WOW!!! Well, I'm going to say more anyway.
This is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to....It is about the early 60's in Mississippi- a budding young closet liberal journalist who was raised by a black maid/caregiver takes down the stories of the local maids.  This, against the backdrop of all the Civil Rights events of the early 60's. The violence was unimaginable (not that the author dwells on it too much), and the fear was real.
It is fascinating to me that we grew up during a time when there were laws against intermingling of the races, along with so many other backward laws.  This is what would now be considered history -how did we get so old that we were alive during "history"?  I just can't get over it!
The voices are absolutely phenomenal. Each woman's story a work of art.  Never have the miles flown by so easily.
Pick this book up (if you haven't yet) or wait til I get home, and I will be happy to lend it to anyone.

The kids left; Our new BFF

So, we are heading out of our neighborhood late yesterday, and what do we see prancing down the road but this fox! So, we stopped the car, rolled down the window, and what did the fox do?
First, he stopped, and just looked at us.
THEN......

He decided to take a load off, just plop down and get comfy, and stare right back at us!!
Wow, what eyes! they glittered, a true gold!!

This morning he was on our patio and just hangin' in our back yard. Great to have a friend.

More food.....sorry, Freddy

This amazing bacon came straight from the pig! We got it at the farmer's market in Hailey, ID. It was a total hippie fest-- folk music, kids wandering and playing, a smattering of local artists. Felt like the good old days.

Diana had some awesome ribs at the Sawtooth Club in Ketchum. We ate on the rooftop, and oh my goodness, look at what a boozer she is!

Such a bunch of carnivores!

Just in case we get hungry, we have our master fisherman.

Self explanatory

Hiking Day 1

These three went hiking today, and had a fabulous although very exhausting time-- they hiked for three hours. They did not let Freddy go, and now claim  that he is not in good enough shape to hike. Well, they don't spend an hour every day at dog park. Most important picture, right here.

Scary Stairs!!!!

This house is nice, but the stairs have no carpet. OMG, END of the WORLD!!
Freddy took the stairs like a pro when we first got here, but suddenly decided they were Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In reverse.
I tried everything, food, wheedling. pushing.....Nothing could get him down the stairs. I gave up a few times- tried to go enjoy my Gallo Single Serving, but, no, this pitiful yipping is coming from the stairs. Yip, yowl, yip, big bark, whine.
IT'S so scary
I put food on paper towels to lure him down .Didn't work.  At  9 PM, exhausted, I made up my mind.  I guess my Gallo Single Serving gave me super human strength. I picked up all 80+ lbs of lard, and carried him down

Freddy frolicking amongst the prairie folk

wow, he's having a blast

Won the Upgrade Lottery!

I have always wanted to stay at a Kimpton Hotel, since they are famously pet friendly. Well, Salt Lake City is right on my way.
But, you know, Fred prefers a smaller room....
I booked a regular room and ended up with a 2 bath, 2 room suite!

Go Laramie, WY!!!

OHHHHHHH!!!!!! Nebraska!

Wow, parts of this state are breathtaking.  The pictures in no way do this scene justice.

In Honor of FW Hawken, our very own hero

My father in law, Bill,  often told us about how he single-handedly won the war... He was an actual Purple Heart.
